Based in Newbury in the UK, Primo Engineering Limited was founded by Ash Appella and Phil Roper having collectively accrued 30+ year's experience designing and analysing high performance transmissions for top tier motorsport covering Formula 1, LMP-1, Formula E, MotoGP, WRC and many others.
Engineering experience beyond the world of motorsport includes high speed epicyclic’s, single speed EV transmissions and multi speed hybrid transmissions marrying powerful electric motors with traditional internal combustion engines for performance road vehicles.
Building from these experiences Primo was established to offer agile, responsive engineering solutions of a high quality to customers seeking support for power transmission development and neighbouring systems.

Phil approaches solving difficult packaging challenges with a high level of enthusiasm and has a proven track record of rapidly developing systems through 2D schemes into 3D models. Presenting ideas to customers along the way he uses his wealth of experience realising their desired solution.
Phil enjoys spending time with his two boys (10 and 12) and has already got them onto CAD and 3D printing projects for school and fun! To unwind Phil enjoys taking Cosmo the dog for long walks in the countryside with his sons and wife Liz.
Phil has been slowly but surely restoring a classic TVR which has been set to be finished and on the road for the last 13 summers!

Following his graduation from Coventry University with a Masters in Automotive Engineering Ash initially worked in defence before moving to the motorsport industry fulfilling simulation and analysis based roles.
Ash is responsible for delivering the verification, simulation and test capability at Primo helping deliver optimised design solutions in our projects. He also brings a wealth of experience in both gear and bevel design having designed gear clusters and bevels across a wide range of motorsport formula and for high performance automotive vehicles.
In his spare time Ash enjoys both road and mountain biking. When time and weather permits climbing outdoors in North Wales and the Lake District is another of his passions.

Enzo is a young French engineer from the prestigious School of Arts Et Métiers. Passionate about all kind of mechanics, but most particularly about motorsport.
Enzo has been with the team since his graduation and is quickly growing into a very capable engineer. He supports both the design and verification functions of the business with equal enthusiasm demonstrating the flexibility and initiative required for working effectively in a small specialist team.
Much like the rest of the team Enzo enjoys undertaking challenging design and has enjoyed working on a range of projects spanning electromechanically actuators, locking differentials, complete transmissions, and chassis sub-assemblies.
In Enzo's spare time he goes diving in cold lakes in Belgium but preferably travels to the Red Sea in Egypt – much warmer and clearer! Mountain biking is another of his hobbies travelling through forests and mountains and riding downhill as fast as possible
